The React Think board will help a person, with the support of a professional, to work through situations that they might encounter and consider the best response. The visual and kinaesthetic use of this board will help some people to retain their considered response better than if it were only verbalised.
Many people are able to manage their own thoughts, emotions and behaviours, others are not and will benefit from professional support and visual tools that supplement their own cognitive functioning. At OurBoards we believe, passionately, that using external visual tools to support executive functioning is not a sign a weakness or failure but simply a different way of processing information. The React / Think Board that we offer is for use by an individual with support from a mental health professional, teacher or parent. We intend that it will used by an individual, with support, rather than “done to” them.

How to use a React Think Board
Visual and kinaesthetic thinking
The boards are designed to support people who struggle with executive thinking. We suggest that the process of using the boards is as visual and kinaesthetic as possible. When there is something to write, then suggest the person writes it on one of the Gecko Notes or Tags off the board and then, separately, place the Gecko Note onto the board. Allow the person to choose colours of the Gecko Notes for the different tasks and steps to be done. Discuss their choice of colour.
When a person encounters an event or situation sometimes they need to react quickly, other times they would be better to think about an appropriate response. This board is designed to help a person, with the support of a professional, to work through situations that they might encounter and consider the best response. The visual and kinaesthetic use of this board will help some people to retain their considered response better than if it were only verbalised.
This board can be used either with the pockets or with Gecko Notes, all included in the pack,. If using pictures, you should print relevant pictures and place a scenario starter in the left box. This might be a picture of inappropriate behaviour, such as fighting, or inappropriate school uniform. The person then chooses from options to stage out how a reaction might develop or how a thought-out response might develop.
With more capable individuals it might be helpful to start with examples where a reaction is the right thing to do and examples where a thought-out response is the right thing to do. The pictures would be placed in Gecko self-cling pockets to make the board tactile, robust and easy to use.
Alternatively, suggest the person writes the focus event and possible scenario stages on Gecko Notes. Get them to place the Notes on the board and discuss their thoughts and the implications of the choices as they do so. The person is then able to visualise what to do when a situation arises rather than having to remember verbal instructions.

The React Think Board is manufactured as a sandwich consisting of a strong lightweight expanded foam base with a dry wipe laminate surface that enables you to write and wipe time and time again. Boards and accessories are suitable for use with most dry wipe pens.
“Gecko” laminate is so called because it is based on technology that mimics the tiny pads on a Gecko’s foot. “Gecko” laminate is an amazing new material, unique to OurBoards, that sticks to most smooth surfaces, such as laminated surfaces, wood, glass, whiteboards and smooth painted walls. Only dry wipe pens and cleaning sprays should be used.
