Used in conjunction with the other boards, the Bottom / Middle / Top Board will help a person to prioritise their behaviours, set objectives to work on and celebrate achievements.
How to use
Visual and kinaesthetic thinking
OurBoards Visual Communication boards are designed to support people who struggle with executive thinking. We suggest that the process of using the boards is as visual and kinaesthetic as possible. When there is something to write, then suggest the person writes it on one of the Gecko Notes or Tags off the board and then, separately, place the Gecko Note onto the board. Allow the person to choose colours of the Gecko Notes for the different tasks and steps to be done. Discuss their choice of colour.
Used in conjunction with the other boards, this will help a person to prioritise their behaviours, set objectives to work on and celebrate achievements.
Discuss with the person behaviours that they, or others, wish to change and get the person to write them on Gecko Notes. Take three of the behaviours, choosing appropriately, and place them on the board in the Top (worst effect on others), Middle and Bottom panels. Work with the person to address the behaviours in order of bottom first, then middle and lastly top. The behaviours should have been selected to enable the “bottom” behaviour to be address most easily.
Possibly use one of the other boards to discuss how such a behaviour could be addressed. This board is likely to be used as the structure for several sessions. At the end of each session the board could be photographed and printed or messaged to the person as a visual reminder. At the start of each session the board should be reinstated.
Either at the time of selecting the behaviours or after the first behaviour has been addressed write on a Gecko Note what will have been / has been achieved and place it on the Achieved panel. Write how the achievement will be celebrated on another Gecko Note and place it on the board. Finally, write how the person will move on after the celebration, this should be the next behaviour to be addressed.
If you have any questions for Andrew Whitehouse about how to use the Bottom / Middle / Top Board or any of our Behaviour and Anxiety Intervention Tools then please complete the form and we will pass them to Andrew. He will reply directly to the email that you provide.
The Bottom / Middle / Top Board is manufactured as a sandwich consisting of a strong lightweight expanded foam base with a dry wipe laminate surface that enables you to write and wipe time and time again. Boards and accessories are suitable for use with most dry wipe pens.
“Gecko” laminate is so called because it is based on technology that mimics the tiny pads on a Gecko’s foot. “Gecko” laminate is an amazing new material, unique to OurBoards, that sticks to most smooth surfaces, such as laminated surfaces, wood, glass, whiteboards and smooth painted walls. Only dry wipe pens and cleaning sprays should be used.
