Special Educational Needs Conference: Innovations in inclusive learning
Of the 1.3 million pupils in England with special educational needs, 1.1 million are being taught in mainstream schools. Despite this, 82% of head teachers believe they do not have the resources to support SEN pupils. Research shows that almost 90% of newly qualified teachers are not fully prepared to support children with complex learning needs. In response to this, the Government has pledged an overhaul of teacher training as the number of SEN pupils in mainstream classrooms looks set to increase. Meanwhile, special schools are facing the unprecedented challenge of catering for pupils with increasingly complex and varied needs despite ever decreasing resources.
The Special Educational Needs Conference will provide unique insights into how both mainstream and special schools can be better equipped to meet the challenges posed by these recent trends. The event will provide vital information and advice for parents, teachers and other public sector staff working to give SEN pupils the best possible school experience.
